Qualcomm throws its chip-designing hat into the medical-grade healthcare ring

Building on several new AI-related chipset platforms for smartphones, audio products, and wearables, Qualcomm is also getting serious about creating chipset platforms suited for medical-grade use.

Announced during Snapdragon Summit 2026, Qualcomm has launched, and is now part of the Personal AI Health Alliance. This group allows Qualcomm to accelerate the commercialisation of its AI-enabled wearables as health solutions through evidence-based approaches and on-device intelligence.

The alliance includes several big-name pharmaceutical organisations and medtech companies, including Optum Health, Scripps Health, MERCK, Digital Medicine Society, Bicom, and others. 

How does it even work for Qualcomm?

The alliance outlines several ambitious approaches and Qualcomm’s value in participating. Through the partnership, they hope to unlock new health insights through real-world sensing and context, creating measurable value across the healthcare ecosystem (from better care to lower costs and better drugs), while also improving privacy support and health information processing to achieve targeted healthcare outcomes.

The alliance’s advancements, discoveries, and proof-of-concept work will be made available on its Personal AI Health Alliance website.
