Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s version 1.0.3 patch has been released, fixing a bug introduced with Season 2 that prevented some players from getting their guaranteed Mega Stone rewards from ranked battles. When Pokemon Legends: Z-A first came out, it received online multiplayer support immediately, starting Season 1 of competitive ranked battles with the corresponding Greninjite reward to unlock Mega Greninja in the game. This was obtained upon reaching Rank K, which required a grind of a few hours in ranked battles, but things changed when Season 2 was released on November 5.
With Season 2, Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s ranked rewards were changed to Greninjite at Rank Y and Delphoxite at Rank S, making it much easier to get these Mega Stones. However, a bug was inadvertently introduced that made it impossible for some players to get either of these Mega Stones. Greninjite was already unlocked in Season 1 for participants, but for those who still had to get it in Season 2, it was bugged alongside Delphoxite. Fortunately, this didn’t affect all players, but those affected finally have a fix with today’s new patch.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Players Won’t Have to Say Goodbye to Mega Greninja After All
After debuting in Season 1 of Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s online ranked battles, Mega Greninja seems to be sticking around for a while longer.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Greninja, Delphox, and Chesnaught Are Finally Available for All
Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Season 3 adds Chesnaughtite to the mix of Mega Stones one can unlock, and both Greninjite and Delphoxite are again obtainable early. It’s unclear what caused the bug to occur in Season 2, and it’s unclear how many players were affected by it. The patch notes state:
- “In ranked battles, even if you reach the rank required to receive Mega Stones as rewards, you may not be able to receive them. (This occurred in Season 2.),” meaning that some players didn’t get Greninjite, Delphoxite, or both upon reaching Rank Y and Rank S, respectively. Since these rewards are exclusively obtainable via ranked battles, not getting them meant soft-locking both Mega Greninja and Mega Delphox for those affected.
Now, players can download Ver. 1.0.3 for the game upon booting their Nintendo Switch or Switch 2. The download is a pretty fast one, typically requiring one minute or less. For those affected by the Mega Stone bug, they can easily get the Greninjite and/or Delphoxite in Pokemon Legends: Z-A now. The steps are as follows:
- Boot your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2. If it’s already on, press the home button and navigate to Pokemon Legends: Z-A to initiate the download of patch 1.0.3. The game can be open, and the process will start anyway. However, the game must be restarted for Ver. 1.0.3 to be installed.
- Launch Pokemon Legends: Z-A when the update is fully loaded and installed.
- From inside the game, press X to open the menu. From there, navigate to Link Play.
- Click on Ranked Battles. This will connect you to the internet, and a pop-up screen will appear, showing the missing Mega Stones as rewards.
For those who didn’t get the chance to obtain one or more Mega Stones from ranked battles, Season 3 rewards are now available. These include:
- Chesnaughtite – Rank S
- Delphoxite – Rank V
- Greninjite – Rank Y
The end-of-season rewards for PLZA’s Season 2 are also available, including Dream Ball(s) for players who reached Rank K or above. These will also be awarded once upon clicking on Ranked Battles after the end of Season 2.
It’s worth noting that the glitch to shiny hunt Alpha Pokemon in Wild Zone 20 has not been patched with Version 1.0.3, and those worried that the update may remove this method can safely install the new version of the software. Likewise, other shiny hunting exploits in Pokemon Legends: Z-A have not been patched.
