Can the Apple iPhone Duo capture ~30% of the foldable market in 2027?

Apple could gain further ground next year. TrendForce projections estimate that iPhone Duo could capture nearly 30% of the foldable market in 2027, putting it close behind market leader Samsung, which has a forecast of 31.9% market share.

Early demand for the iPhone Duo appears encouraging for Apple. Its debut foldable phone reportedly attracted stronger-than-expected pre-orders, prompting Apple to increase component orders by 44%. The company is also reportedly testing prototypes of a second-generation model with Face ID and an Action Button.

TrendForce believes Apple’s strengths extend beyond hardware design. Its ability to integrate its own chips, iOS, and a well-established developer ecosystem could help it deliver a more cohesive foldable experience. Better app compatibility and more reliable hardware could also shift competition away from the novelty of a folding screen toward more practical benefits, particularly multitasking and productivity.

Apple may be late to the foldable phone party, but its entry this year could give established players, particularly Samsung, plenty to worry about in the months ahead.
