Hollow Knight: Silksong launched on September 4, 2025, but Team Cherry is far from finished with it. In a new interview with Bloomberg, co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen offered a look into the game’s future, disclosing details on how Silksong‘s post-launch updates will continue and hinting at larger expansions that could resemble some of the first game’s biggest additions.
For players familiar with how Hollow Knight grew after release, Gibson and Pellen’s comments suggest that Hollow Knight: Silksong may follow a similar path, though the scope and structure of its post-launch content could differ significantly because of how large the game already is. In fact, the co-founders emphasized during the interview that the team would need to find creative ways to incorporate the content, otherwise “it would just be gargantuan” by the end of it all.
Post-Launch Support for Hollow Knight and How Silksong Compares
For Silksong, the original Hollow Knight certainly set a precedent for post-launch, long-term support. Following its launch in 2017, Team Cherry expanded Hollow Knight with several substantial free updates that added new bosses, areas, and features to the game:
- Hidden Dreams – Added new boss fights, fast-travel options, and QoL improvements.
- The Grimm Troupe – Introduced a full questline, new charms, new characters, and multiple boss encounters.
- Lifeblood – Updated the game’s visual presentation and balance while adding new modes and gameplay changes.
- Godmaster – Added the Godhome area, multiple pantheons, and challenging boss gauntlets that became a defining part of the late-game experience.
Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s situation, on the other hand, is a bit different. Whereas the original Hollow Knight grew from smaller beginnings, Silksong launched as a much larger game right off the bat. As such, expanding it is going to require Team Cherry taking a more careful approach to ensure the game’s pacing and accessibility remain intact. Essentially, the developer has to consider how to introduce new content to Hollow Knight: Silksong without overwhelming new players or bloating the kingdom of Pharloom to the point of it being unmanageable.
Post-Launch Updates Released for Hollow Knight: Silksong So Far
Since launch, Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s updates have primarily revolved around stability and quality-of-life improvements while the team looks at larger content drops behind the scenes. Several patches have been released across PC and consoles, each targeting different aspects of the game’s early performance:
- Early patches corrected animation bugs, traversal issues, and several softlock scenarios.
- Expanded controller compatibility, improved rumble functionality, and refined input responsiveness across platforms.
- Updates were made to dithering, environmental lighting behavior, and other minor presentation tweaks.
- Continued improvements to translations, including community-supported updates to the Simplified Chinese localization.
- Ongoing updates aimed at smoothing framerate dips, tightening hit detection, and reducing edge-case crashes.
Patches like these are normal for any game, but these updates, in particular, match the early support cycle of the first Hollow Knight, showing Team Cherry’s devotion to maintaining Silksong until the team can get some more substantial updates in order.
Hollow Knight: Silksong DLC Plans and What Team Cherry Has Announced So Far
At this point, Team Cherry has not made a formal announcement regarding Hollow Knight: Silksong DLC or a potential release window for it, but Gibson and Pellen’s interview with Bloomberg does offer a glimpse into the team’s plans for the game’s future. According to the co-founders, Team Cherry is already developing new content for Hollow Knight: Silksong, though much of it is still up in the air and has no set timeline.
While no DLC release date or package has been officially announced, Gibson and Pellen confirmed the following through the interview:
- New content is already in development.
- Steel Assassin Sharpe and associated encounters will return in a future expansion.
- Village of Lions and other postponed features are planned for post-launch.
- The team is working on additional, newly conceived content beyond previously teased material.
- Future content may include both small updates and large Godmaster-like expansions.
- The team wants expansions to integrate naturally, avoiding overwhelming newcomers.
- No timeline has been announced, but communication will increase as content solidifies.
As for the timing of these updates, Pellen said the team will “start talking about it more soon” but is careful not to promise dates. The co-founders stressed that while the cadence of communication will be more frequent coming up, but also that they will still “pop up when we’ve got something to talk about.” Until then, players will have to wait patiently as Team Cherry manifests its plans and prepares Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s next round of content behind the scenes.
