Apple scales back Mac RAM options amid shortage

The M4 Mac Studio is also affected. It is now offered only in two variants: 32GB (paired with the 14-core CPU, 32-core GPU option) and 64GB (for the 16-core CPU, 40-core GPU variant). For those who want the Mac Studio with the M3 Ultra, that’s available only in a single 96GB RAM configuration.

The tightening of RAM options comes just days after Apple discontinued the 256GB Mac mini. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently shared that it could take “several months” for supply to catch up with the “higher than expected demand”.

While power users may find the reduced configurability frustrating, the upside is that Apple has not raised prices, at least for now. However, since the memory chip shortage crisis is likely to persist for years, the likelihood of future price increases cannot be ruled out.
