Mediacorp said it has lodged a police report over a Facebook comment blasting the establishment, allegedly made from CNA’s official account.
In response to The New Paper’s queries, the broadcaster, which owns CNA, said it had done so in order to “help verify the screenshot’s authenticity and origin”.
On Oct 16, Facebook user Yusri Shaggy Sapari uploaded a screenshot showing what appeared to be CNA’s verified account commenting on Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam’s 2015 post about the late Lee Kuan Yew’s legacy and the future of Singapore.
The comment read: “Typical playbook – talking to their base, rally their troops and generals but their real target is actually to corner and neutralise the WP.”
WP most likely refers to the opposition Workers’ Party.
“CNA admin caught,” the caption read.
The post has since garnered more than 400 reactions and 240 shares. It was also reshared on Reddit, gathering more than 1,600 upvotes.
According to Yusri, who’s a filmmaker, the comment has since been deleted. He took the screenshot after he saw it “with my own eyes”.
The comment was not visible on Mr Shanmugam’s original post, nor on a recent reshare of it by diplomat Bilahari Kausikan.
