Woman taken to hospital after right hand got trapped in sugar cane machine in Clementi


SINGAPORE – A woman was taken to hospital after her right hand was trapped in a sugar cane machine on Oct 10 evening.

In response to queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the incident, which happened at Block 448 Clementi Avenue 3 at about 6.50pm that day.

The address is where the Clementi 448 Market and Food Centre is located.

“Firefighters and rescue specialists from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team carried out the rescue together with an SCDF paramedic, who administered pain-relief medication and monitored the person’s vital signs throughout the operation,” SCDF said.

An emergency medical team from Ng Teng Fong General Hospital was also on site to provide medical support, it added.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the person is a female employee at a juice stall and is receiving treatment at the hospital for injuries to three of her fingers.

The person’s hand was subsequently released from the juicer and the person was taken to National University Hospital, SCDF said.

In pictures of the incident uploaded to social media platform Xiaohongshu, first responders can be seen in front of the stall, while members of the public observe from behind a police cordon.
