Xiaomi has finally announced the global launch of its flagship 17 series, and we managed to spend a couple of days in Beijing with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra to snap some shots in the bustling capital city of China.

Whether it’s of people dressing up to visit the Forbidden City or the bright lights of Beijing’s night markets, we brought the phone and its Leica-powered cameras with us to capture what we saw.

The imaging collaboration agreement between Xiaomi and Leica was inked back in 2022, and they’ve now upgraded it to a “Strategetic Co-creation Model”, which is supposed to result in even deeper collaboration for Xiaomi’s flagship phones, starting with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and its new cameras.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra versus Leitzphone: Are there differences?

There’s also the Leica Leitzphone Powered by Xiaomi, which is the global version of the China-only Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica. It is almost identical to the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, with the same processor and hardware, but it comes with fun features like a Leica Essential mode that lets you shoot in Leica M9 or Leica M3 styles.

Other Leitzphone exclusive add-ons include CAI Photo Authenticity Protection and a Leica Camera Ring that doubles as a zoom ring. However, it’s a very exclusive model with limited units, and we expect the phone to sell like hotcakes.
