TikTok’s short-form videos have helped countless eateries go viral. Now, the social media platform wants to help people find these, read reviews and book a table, all within the same app.
The company has introduced Must Eat, a new restaurant discovery guide built around 40 million TikTok posts and comments. The feature turns recommendations from creators and everyday users into searchable restaurant listings, putting TikTok in more direct competition with Google Maps and Yelp.
Users can browse curated restaurant recommendations, check ratings, compare prices and look up locations on a map. The guide is divided into two categories:
- Everyday Eats: Casual restaurants, neighbourhood favourites and affordable dining spots.
- Elevated Dining: Restaurants suited for celebrations, special occasions and more elaborate meals.
Users can narrow their search by cuisine, price, rating, distance and restaurants currently open. Each restaurant listing also links to related TikTok videos, giving diners a closer look at the food and atmosphere before deciding where to go.
They can leave reviews, bookmark restaurants for later, call establishments, and, at selected locations, make reservations through OpenTable. TikTok also says restaurants can’t pay to appear in its curated recommendation lists.
