Apple updates the Apple TV 4K with A19 chip, new Siri Remote, and higher price tag

Back in July, I wrote that you should not buy an Apple TV 4K because a new one is in the works. As it turns out, I was right, because Apple has just announced the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K.

The newest Apple TV 4K comes four years after its predecessor. Physically, it looks identical to the model it replaces, but it gets a substantial upgrade under the hood in the form of the A19 chip. The same chip found in the iPhone 17 and 17e. The more powerful chip should also mean a better gaming experience on Apple Arcade.

This allows it to support Siri AI, which is handy because users can now ask it about shows and music. It can even call on Siri’s broad world knowledge to suggest shows. And because Siri AI now has personal context, it can even answer questions about your schedules, add events to your calendar, and more. To ensure an optimal Siri experience, the new Apple TV 4K has farfield microphones to ensure it picks up voice commands.

Compatibility with HomePod has also been improved. You can now pair the Apple TV 4K with up to four HomePods, with two acting as front stereo speakers and the other two acting as rear surrounds. I got the chance to experience this setup, and it does sound more immersive and cinematic.

This new Apple TV 4K comes with a new Siri Remote too. This new remote supports Precision Finding with Find My, so you can look for it with your iPhone. You can also use Siri to locate the remote. Just ask Siri, and Siri will play a sound on your remote to help you locate it.

Sadly, these features will cost you. The Apple TV 4K now starts at S$399, which is a lot more than the S$199 launch price of its predecessor. Sure, you could make the case that the AI craze has made everything more expensive, and that this new model does have a more powerful chip and more features. Even so, there’s no getting around the fact that it has doubled in price. I’ll need more time to properly evaluate it before I can pass judgment.

Availability and pricing

The Apple TV 4K is priced at S$399, and according to Apple, will be “coming soon to customers in Singapore.” We’ll update this section once we have confirmed dates, but you can check it out now at Apple’s website.
