Sony’s new WF-1000XM6 earbuds features new ANC chips, more mics, and a higher price tag

The driver unit is said to be all new. Sony is quite coy on the changes, but it says that the unit uses new materials for the dome and edge. Sony also says that performance in the mid to high-frequency ranges sees the biggest improvement.

Call quality has been improved, too. Voices are picked up using two mics along with a bone conduction sensor on each unit, while AI intelligently reduces unwanted ambient noise.

In terms of connectivity, the WF-1000XM6 supports Bluetooth 5.3, and supported codecs include SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3. Claimed battery life is up to 8 hours on a single charge with ANC on, while the charging case adds another 16 hours. The case charges via USB-C and wirelessly.

Certainly, these new earbuds sound like they could give Apple’s new AirPods Pro a run for their money. Apple’s newest earbuds have almost freakish levels of noise cancellation, and it would be amazing if these Sonys can top them. But as it is often said, the proof is in the hearing, and I can’t wait to try these earbuds out.

Availability and pricing

The Sony WF-1000XM6 will go on sale in Singapore in early March 2026 and will cost S$479. That’s quite a big jump in price because its predecessor had a launch price of S$417, even if it’s nearly three years ago.
