An attempt to smuggle duty-unpaid cigarettes into Singapore by car was thwarted after officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) sliced open the vehicle’s tyres during checks.
The discovery was made at Woodlands Checkpoint on Sept 26, said ICA in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Oct 13).
ICA’s search and examination officers directed the Malaysia-registered car for enhanced checks and discovered over 980 packets of contraband hidden within tyres.
