It was inevitable, Apple has confirmed that it will be raising prices due to the ongoing memory chip shortage.
Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, Apple CEO Tim Cook acknowledged that “price increases are unavoidable”. While the company has been absorbing higher component costs and optimising its supply chain to minimise the impact on consumers, Cook said the current situation is no longer sustainable.
The decision comes as memory manufacturers continue to struggle with supply constraints. Earlier this year, SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won warned that the memory chip crunch could persist until 2030, affecting a wide range of consumer electronics, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
