Mac users who demand the ultimate in performance can rejoice because there’s a new “Ultra” chip in town. Meet the M5 Ultra.
Simply put, the M5 Ultra is the biggest and most powerful Mac chip ever. Like previous “Ultra” chips, the M5 Ultra is the result of two M5 Max chips fused together using Apple’s UltraFusion interconnect technology. To attain maximum performance, Apple is using a next-generation UltraFusion interconnect that has an increased memory bandwidth of 4.4TB/s.
In its full-fat configuration, the M5 Ultra has 36 CPU cores, which consist of 12 super cores and 24 performance cores. Apple claims up to 25% higher single-threaded performance and up to 30% higher multi-threaded performance over M3 Ultra.
As for graphics, the M5 Ultra can be ordered with up to 80 GPU cores. Since each core features a Neural Accelerator, Apple claims it can deliver up to 4.5 times the peak GPU compute for AI compared to M3 Ultra. These GPU cores also feature Apple’s latest shader core and Dynamic Caching technologies for up to 40% faster graphics performance over M3 Ultra.
