Final Fantasy 14 lead battle content designer Masaki “Mr. Ozma” Nakagawa shared on social media that he is working on “something new and fresh” for one of Dawntrail‘s future content patches. However, Nakagawa said that his next project is not the finale of the Arcadion raid series, which is slated to arrive in Final Fantasy 14 this December in Patch 7.4, Into The Mist.
Known to the Final Fantasy 14 player community as Mr. Ozma for his work on The Weeping City of Mhach alliance raid, Nakagawa designed some of the game’s more difficult battle and raid challenges to date. An example of Nakagawa’s design philosophy is the Dragonsong’s Reprise (Ultimate) raid encounter from Endwalker, which featured a time-traveling mechanic that players had to figure out during the course of the battle. Nakagawa was also responsible for designing the Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) alliance raid battle, which launched on Christmas Eve in 2024.
Final Fantasy 14’s Mr. Ozma Teases His Next Content Project
Recently, Nakagawa introduced the Quantum difficulty setting for Final Fantasy 14‘s latest Deep Dungeon, Pilgrim’s Traverse, which launched in October alongside Patch 7.35. After sharing his thoughts on how designing a fight should focus on fun rather than on difficulty and challenge, Nakagawa responded to a player’s question about his potential involvement in future fights. Nakagawa confirmed that he is not working on the finale of the Arcadion raid series, the AAC Heavyweight Tier, and said that a different battle design team is developing it. The normal mode of the AAC Heavyweight Tier will arrive with Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.4, Into The Mist, on December 16. Its Savage variant will launch three weeks later, on January 6.
Instead, Nakagawa confirmed he is working on ‘something new and fresh’ for Final Fantasy 14, and that his next project is slated for the Patch 7.5x series in 2026. Nakagawa stopped short of confirming what his next battle project will be, but said that he is pouring all his efforts into it. As of this writing, the features confirmed for Patch 7.5 and subsequent updates include the final wing of the Echoes of Vana’diel alliance raid series, a second zone in the Occult Crescent, the Beastmaster Limited Job, and potentially Dawntrail‘s second Ultimate raid encounter.
Although Nakagawa could not reveal further details, his comments piqued the interest of Final Fantasy 14 fans on social media. With Patch 7.4 introducing a new raid tier and various quality-of-life updates, it remains to be seen what plans Nakagawa and Square Enix have in store for Final Fantasy 14‘s battle-hardened players.
