Woman claims bus driver was ‘speeding’ after sudden stop left her bruised, Go-Ahead says he drove within limit

“It could have been worse – thankfully my young daughter stayed seated and wasn’t hurt,” she added.

The Stomper said she wrote to Go-Ahead Singapore on the same day to report the incident and called for an investigation into the driver’s actions, including a review of CCTV footage.

However, she said she was dissatisfied with the company’s reply.

“They claimed it was my fault for not holding on to the railing,” she said. “The bus was crowded and I was moving toward the exit with my daughter’s school bag.

“It’s not always possible to hold on when you’re navigating through people.

“If the driver wasn’t speeding, do you think my injury would be this bad?”

She added that she was only seeking a fair and thorough review of the incident.

In response to a Stomp query, a Go-Ahead Singapore spokesperson said:

“Go-Ahead Singapore is aware of an incident involving a passenger on Service 119 on Oct 16.

“Our findings indicate that the bus captain was driving within the speed limit when the traffic lights turned amber as the bus approached the junction.

“It appears that the passenger had stood up to prepare to alight just before the bus came to a stop, and sustained a bruise after knocking against the seat in front when the brakes were applied.

“The safety and comfort of our commuters remain a top priority, and we will continue to remind our bus captains and passengers alike to exercise care while on board.”
