Obviously, you’re here because you want to know if the X-Men ‘97 Season 2 finale has any post-credits scenes. We can tell you it has one at the very end of the credits, so stick around!
Full spoilers follow…
X-Men ‘97 Season 2 has wrapped, giving fans one last (and in some ways anticlimactic) confrontation between the X-Men and the time-travelling tyrant known as Apocalypse (Ross Marquand). But even as the dust of that battle settles, the series is already looking ahead to new conflicts. In the process, it teases the return of a fan-favorite group of villains who surprisingly haven’t appeared in the revival series before now.
Let’s break down what you need to know about this last-minute tease and what it means for the ever-darkening landscape of X-Men ‘97 in Season 3.
X-Men ‘97 Season 2 Post-Credits Scene Explained
X-Men ‘97 Season 2 ends on a mostly happy note for our mutant heroes. Sure, Professor Xavier’s (Marquand) shiny new X-Corps headquarters is obliterated, but Apocalypse is defeated and Rogue (Lenore Zann) and Gambit (A. J. LoCascio) are reunited at last. Only the noble sacrifice of Nightcrawler (Adrian Hough) casts a shadow over this lighthearted reunion.
That said, the finale makes it clear that dark days lie ahead for Xavier and his team. The post-credits scene reintroduces Mystique (Randall Carpenter), a villain who played a key role in the original X-Men: The Animated Series but had been sitting out X-Men ‘97 up till now. Mystique is shown infiltrating Dr. Valerie Cooper’s (Catherine Disher) office and rifling through her computer files. She even kills Cooper, with the implication being that she’s going to be impersonating this government liaison in Season 3. How much damage can a self-serving shape-shifter do in a position of power like this? We’re about to find out.
