Speaking in Parliament on Aug. 5, Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Dr Janil Puthucheary said Singapore’s Beverage Container Return Scheme (BCRS) has recorded more than 1 million successful transactions since it launched on Apr. 1, with 5.5 million beverage containers returned. He added that the figure is expected to grow as more products bearing the BCRS label enter the market. Dr Janil also said all 1,070 reverse vending machines (RVMs) planned for the initial rollout have been deployed and are operational, putting more than 90% of HDB residents within a 5-minute walk of an RVM. The government is also on track to increase the number of return points to around 2,000 within the scheme’s first year.
