Qualcomm chip prices rise from 1 September



The global semiconductor cost crunch is showing little sign of easing, and Qualcomm has become the latest major chipmaker to announce higher prices.

In an interview with CNBC, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon confirmed that the company will raise prices across its portfolio of mobile chips from 1 September. Amon attributed the increase to elevated production and component costs.

Qualcomm’s confirmation of a price hike is yet another headwind for Android smartphone makers. Qualcomm supplies processors to many of the world’s leading Android brands, including Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, OPPO, vivo, and Honor. Any increase in chip prices is likely to ripple through the supply chain and, ultimately, onto consumers.
