The investigation officer (IO) who handled the initial police report in the fatal abuse case of four-year-old Megan Khung has resigned, while her supervisor received a financial penalty, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said on 23 Oct in response to queries from The Straits Times. The action followed internal investigations into how the case was managed after concerns arose over lapses in the handling of the first report.
On the same day, a review panel released its findings highlighting failures across multiple agencies, including the Ministry of Social and Family Development’s Child Protective Service and the police, in addressing signs of abuse in Megan’s case. Megan endured a year of severe abuse from Feb 2019 at the hands of her mother, Foo Li Ping, and Foo’s boyfriend, Wong Shi Xiang. She died in Feb 2020, and her body was later burned and never recovered.
