Samsung may introduce an in-house GPU with the Galaxy S28



Samsung’s partnership with AMD has seen its high-end Exynos chips equipped with GPUs based on AMD’s graphics architecture. However, that arrangement could change in 2028, according to a report from Korean news outlet Hankyung.

Citing sources within the semiconductor industry, Hankyung claims Samsung plans to develop a custom, in-house GPU for the Exynos 2800. Beyond smartphones, Samsung is also said to be planning to use the GPU in smart glasses, autonomous vehicles, and even humanoid robots.

While Samsung has a multi-year agreement with AMD to bring Radeon Graphics to future Exynos chipsets, the South Korean company is supposedly of the notion that it cannot rely on general-purpose GPUs to fully realise its AI ambitions.
