Samsung showcases crease-less foldable OLED at CES 2026, hints at future Galaxy Z Fold8 and foldable iPhone use

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Samsung may adopt a laser-drilled metal display plate for its next Galaxy Z Fold. Supplied by South Korean firm Fine M-Tec, the component reportedly helps disperse the stress generated during screen bending, enabling a crease-free viewing experience. Fine M-Tec is also believed to be supplying the same component to Apple.

Separately, reports suggest Apple plans to use liquid metal for the hinge mechanism of its foldable iPhone. This is said to improve durability, enhance screen flatness, and further minimise crease marks. A “nearly invisible crease” and a “much higher-quality hinge” are tipped to be key differentiators for Apple’s foldable iPhone.

That said, it would not be surprising if Samsung’s new OLED panel ultimately finds its way into the Galaxy Z Fold8, and possibly Apple’s foldable iPhone as well. Apple is expected to enter the foldable phone market later this year.
