Indie developer Team Cherry has revealed that it will be releasing an expansion called Sea of Sorrow for the popular metroidvania Hollow Knight: Silksong, and players will be able to get their hands on the new content for free in 2026. Hollow Knight: Silksong was originally released on September 4, 2025, and is currently available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

In a new blog post, Team Cherry shed some light on the future of Hollow Knight: Silksong, which will likely come as a welcome surprise to gamers who have been curious about long-term support for the indie hit. The biggest reveal involved a major expansion called Sea of Sorrow, which will be coming sometime in 2026. In addition to revealing Sea of Sorrow for the first time, Team Cherry announced that the expansion will be added to the game for free, meaning fans will simply need to download it and start playing after release. According to the developers, the expansion will add new areas as well as fresh bosses and tools. Sea of Sorrow will feature a nautical theme, which means it will likely look and feel distinct from the game’s original content. While Team Cherry hasn’t shared many specific details, some fans are already wondering if this expansion could feature some content that takes place underwater, potentially shifting the way movement functions.
