10 Switch games have received compatibility updates on Switch 2, addressing various issues some players have experienced on the latest Nintendo console. These compatibility fixes come as Switch 2 received a system update on December 8.
One of the perks of Nintendo’s latest hybrid system is backwards compatibility. This feature was a big deal for many fans, as the original Switch lacked support for Wii U discs due to the shift to cartridges. Thanks to this change on the Switch 2, players have access to numerous classic games from one of Nintendo’s best console generations. However, while backwards compatibility on Switch 2 opened the door for players to play many Switch games on newer hardware, the feature has had a few issues.

Fortunately, Nintendo continues to release compatibility updates to fix some lingering problems players have encountered when playing Switch games on Switch 2. The latest of these addresses 10 games, including some heavy hitters, such as Resident Evil 4 and Miitopia. The list of games that received compatibility fixes also included Blade of Darkness, Game Dev Story, Little Nightmares: Complete Edition, Moji Yuugi, Solid Void – Nature Puzzles, Sports Party, Streets of Rage 4, and Venture Towns. It is unclear what changes were made to each title, but they should run better on Switch 2 now.
It is worth noting that some Switch games still need fixes on Switch 2. For example, the popular 3D platformer A Hat in Time was previously flagged by Nintendo, noting problems with game progression. Nevertheless, as Nintendo continues to make improvements to its backwards compatibility, the list of supported games should grow in the coming weeks. In fact, this latest batch of fixes is only one of many released by Nintendo so far, with other updates fixing titles across a range of genres. For instance, an October update made improvements to Warframe on Switch 2, among other titles.
With such a blockbuster Switch library, backwards compatibility can be a compelling reason to consider a Switch 2. Despite a few games still being unsupported, Switch 2 has become the best way to play some of these older games. Thanks to the improved hardware, games that had frame rate problems, like Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, run much smoother. Additionally, Nintendo has released Switch 2 Editions of popular first-party titles that add new features and have improved image quality. A couple of highlights of these Switch 2 Editions include Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which see their frame rates bumped to 60fps and the resolution increased.
Switch 2 Continues to Get New Games
While players continue to play Switch games on Switch 2, the list of new releases for the console continues to expand. On December 4, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launched, bringing a new 3D adventure featuring Samus Aran for fans to check out. While the game was released for both Switch 2 and the original Switch, it sees significant graphical improvements on the newer hardware. Unfortunately, reception for this latest installment has been mixed compared to the critical acclaim of previous Metroid Prime games. However, players can utilize backwards compatibility to check out Switch 1’s Metroid Prime Remastered, which received a 94 on OpenCritic, if the new game does not satisfy their Metroid craving.
It will be interesting to see what Nintendo has planned for Switch 2 in 2026. While the console has been very popular in its first year on the market, it has not been devoid of controversy. Issues such as pricing have soured some players’ opinions. With not many first-party Switch 2 games announced for 2026, Nintendo could have more news to share in the next few months.
