The Nintendo Switch 2 didn’t have an amazing launch year, but there were some satisfying experiences like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. Switch 2 fans can look forward to several sequels and sequel-adjacent games to light up their 2026 year, including Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Fate Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake, Mario Tennis Fever, and Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
10 Nintendo Switch 2 Games That Are Confirmed (But Don’t Have A Release Date Yet)
Will these Switch 2 games be released in 2026, or will they be delayed?
Most Switch 2 fans probably know about those games, but these other upcoming sequels may be flying under the radar at the moment. Let’s change that with a quick preview of games expected to release sometime in 2026. They’re not guarantees, but it’s something to hold onto.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond The Horizon (January 15, 2026)
The Climax Of An RPG Story
The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon was released in Japan in 2024, and the wait for the North American release is almost over. Most games between territories are released simultaneously, but the Trails series is still significantly behind because it’s a bit more niche.
For example, the beginning of this trilogy, The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak, was released in 2021 in Japan, and North Americans had to wait until 2024. Release schedules aside, the unique aspect of these games is that they allow players to switch between real-time and turn-based combat. Besides the epic story, this flexibility is what fans dig the most.
Resident Evil Requiem (February 27, 2026)
Yes, Evil With Strike The Switch 2
Resident Evil Requiem is the long-awaited sequel to Capcom’s saga, with the last mainline game, Resident Evil Village, appearing in 2021. This will be the first time a modern Nintendo console will be getting one of these games day and date with its competitors in quite some time, and some fans may not have even known this was happening for the Switch 2.
7 Big FPS Games Officially Coming In 2026
Beyond Halo: Campaign Evolved, there are some other great shooters coming in 2026 to satisfy FPS players.
Whether the quality will match the other consoles is hard to say, but regardless, the Switch 2 needs horror games. Fans will be able to play two characters, starting with newcomer Grace, who will have more slow-paced segments. Better yet, fan favorite Leon S. Kennedy will return for more action-oriented scenarios, who has not appeared in a mainline game since 2012’s Resident Evil 6.
Everybody knows that Resident Evil Requiem is coming out in 2026, but we included the game as some people might assume it will be skipping the Switch 2.
Human Fall Flat 2 (Spring 2026 – No Release Date Yet)
A Silly Party Game Comes To The Switch 2
Human Fall Flat 2 was announced in 2023, and it still isn’t out yet. The original game, Human: Fall Flat, was released in 2016, and like other indie experiences, including Minecraft, fan support has kept it alive all this time. The new game for Switch 2 is expected sometime in 2026, and it is the only console version to be announced by Devolver Digital, although that could change over the coming months. Also, the system will also be getting the original game.
For those who never checked the original out, it can essentially be called a chaos simulator, as players can play with friends to try and get through various work projects. With wonky physics, things rarely go as planned, which is what makes it fun. When it comes to games that Devolver Digital publishes, fans know to expect the unexpected.
Professor Layton And The New World of Steam (2026 – No Release Date Yet)
Prepare To Bust Your Brain With A Huge Switch 2 Sequel
Professor Layton fans have been dying for a new entry for almost a decade, as Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy was released in 2017. While there have been other puzzle games and adventure games released since that are just as whimsical, there’s nothing quite like a Professor Layton adventure.
Most entries can be boiled down to a Sherlock Holmes mystery, but with math and logic puzzles keeping players away from the next story beat. Not much is known about this next entry, but fans can hope for more of the same, and perhaps some modern amenities like a better hint system, because these puzzles are often very challenging.
R-Type Dimensions 3 (May 2026 – No Release Date Yet)
A SHMUP Classic Returns To The Switch 2
R-Type Dimensions 3 will see the return of a classic series that has been keeping on since 1987. In that time, R-Type hasn’t changed that much as a horizontal shoot ‘em up, or SHMUP, but that’s okay because they are always solid. This specific sub-series began with R-Type Dimensions in 2009, during the Xbox 360 era, when many arcade classics were attempting a comeback.
However, that’s not the only R-Type game fans can look forward to, as R-Type Tactics 1 + 2 Cosmos actually has a release date, March 12, 2026, but it will only be available on Switch. The first game was a PSP exclusive in 2008 for North America, while the sequel was never released outside of Japan. Between the shooter entry and this tactical compilation of spinoffs, R-Type fans will eat heartily in 2026.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection (March 13, 2026)
A Big RPG Spin-Off Series Returns With Another Great Monster-Collecting Game
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection will have the greatest range of launch systems compared to the previous two entries. It will launch on PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S, which can hopefully help it make a better dent within the RPG community. What sets this spinoff series apart from the mainline Monster Hunter games is the turn-based combat, subbing in for action.
Upcoming Video Games Sequels We Never Thought Would Happen
Some game sequels that take so long to release that fans give up hope. That’s exactly the case with these games, except they’re set to launch soon.
Players will be able to explore open areas with their party and look for monster nests, which come in all sizes in the previous games. Inside, players can steal eggs, hatch them, and then add that monster to their party. It’s sort of a play on the Pokemon games, but with a more fantastical aesthetic and a wider appeal beyond just kids.
Carmageddon: Rogue Shift (2026 – Switch Release Date Not Confirmed)
A Roguelike Racer
Carmageddon began as a series on MS-DOS computers in 1997, which featured racing and the ability to run people over. It was sort of like Grand Theft Auto combined with Mortal Kombat, and the franchise’s biggest moment in the sun was in the late 90s and early 2000s, but then it went away until the first revival attempt in 2015 with Carmageddon: Reincarnation.
Besides some mobile attempts, Carmageddon: Rogue Shift will be the first big return for the series on consoles and PC in a decade, which is slated for a release in 2026. The gameplay will still involve racing and nailing down pedestrians, but there will also be a roguelike element with an upgrade oath. As roguelikes are all the rage nowadays, thanks to releases like Hades and Rogue Legacy, it seems like a good idea for Carmageddon: Rogue Shift to bring the franchise back strongly.
Rogue Shift will debut on February 26 on PS5 and Xbox, but the Switch 2 release date is not currently confirmed.
