HWZ Tech Awards 2025 Readers’ Choice Results – Part 1

You’ve read our picks in the Editor’s Choice series showcasing the best products of the year as tested by our editorial team, and now we present the results of the Readers’ Choice series of Tech Awards 2025.

This segment of the awards highlights the top tech brands and services in Singapore, as chosen by you. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our readers for participating in these polls, now in their 16th year. Your participation in the Tech Awards process helps democratise these results, providing a clear message of real consumer sentiment and brand recognition across the tech industry.

This year, we had 52 award categories for polling, expanding our Services category with some fan favourites from the past, like favourite shopping platforms, as well as brand-new voting categories to stay relevant to our audience. After carefully compiling the results from thousands of our readers, we’re ready to share the outcome to help Singaporeans make an informed buying decision and highlight why these brands came out ahead.

This article is Part 1 (out of 8) and covers 9 out of 52 awards that make up the Best of Personal Computing categories. Best Ultraportable Laptop Brand – Apple

Step into any cafe and count the number of MacBooks. Is it any surprise then that Apple is, once again, the winner of the Readers’ Choice Best Ultraportable Laptop Brand? The main reason for this is the continued strong performance of its custom chips. Its M-series chips continue to offer class-leading levels of performance and power consumption, which means MacBooks are not only powerful but also have great battery life. Coupled with their excellent displays, connectivity, and all-around build quality, it’s little wonder that they are the laptop of choice for many consumers. That said, Apple’s shares have fallen slightly to just under 29% this year compared to last year, while rivals ASUS and Lenovo have increased. It will be intriguing to see if this trend continues next year.

Best Convertible Laptop Brand – ASUS

ASUS successfully defended its position as the top brand in the Best Convertible Laptop Brand category, and even increased its share this year from 26% to over 29% (here are last year’s standings). This is in no small part due to ASUS’s strong lineup of convertible laptops, which also includes the class-leading, powerful and premium dual-display ZenBook Duo UX8406 and the more affordable Vivobook Flip series. That said, in second place is Lenovo, and its Yoga lineup of convertible laptops remains popular, as evidenced by its share growth from 22% to 24% this year.

On the other end of the comparison, Microsoft, HP, Dell, and LG have collectively lost share. This is likely due to their reduced focus on marketing convertible laptops compared to their standard laptops, and in the case of Microsoft, it might have something to do with their adoption of Qualcomm Snapdragon processors across their lineup instead of Intel.

Best External Storage Brand – SanDisk

SanDisk snatched the Best External Storage Brand category from Seagate last year and increased its lead further this year from 29% to 32%. This shows that flash storage is now the storage medium of choice for most users. This development is not surprising given that flash storage has now become more affordable and is many times faster than traditional hard disk drives. Furthermore, SanDisk’s memory cards are extremely popular with photographers and readers who need extra storage for their mobile devices. Trailing behind are Samsung and Seagate, which are both tied for second place with 21% of the votes.

Best Wireless Networking Brand – ASUS

ASUS held on to the top spot in the Best Wireless Networking Brand category thanks to its early adoption and strong lineup of Wi-Fi 7 routers and mesh networking systems. Its lineup includes powerful, feature-rich, high-end routers like the ROG Rapture GT-BE98, and more affordable ones like the RT-BE58U. Together with its reputation for ease of use and high customisability, it’s no wonder it continues to lead this category. However, second-place TP-Link managed to grow its share from 20% to 25%, which can be attributed to its strategy of partnering with ISPs to provide routers for broadband plans.

Best Security Camera Brand – Tapo

It was a close fight last year, but TP-Link’s efforts (under the marketing brand name “Tapo”) in this space have paid off big time this year by becoming the runaway leader in the Best Security Camera Brand category with a healthy ~29% of the votes. This is 10 percentage points more than second-place D-Link, giving Tapo a near 50% higher share of voice. If you look up security cameras online or in shops, chances are, the first camera you’ll come across is from Tapo (part of the TP-Link family). The brand’s Tapo collection now consists of a wide range of Wi-Fi cameras, doorbell cameras, and various outdoor cameras, embracing the smart home ecosystem in a big way. There really is something for everyone, regardless of whether you are living in an apartment or a large private estate.

Best Home Printer Brand – Canon

Canon widened its lead in the Best Home Printer Brand category, going from 37% last year to nearly 39% this year. Brother also saw its share grow from 21% to 23% as it launched new compact ink tank printers. The past year saw brands continue to focus on improving print quality, while reducing printing costs and ensuring sustainability. Brands are also starting to look at ways to incorporate AI to help make printing easier and more efficient.

Best Webcam Brand – Logitech

Logitech remains the runaway leader in the Best Webcam Brand category with a staggering 33.5% of the votes. However, this is significantly lower than the 44% that it garnered last year. While it remains the most popular and prominent brand in webcams, there’s no question that rivals are catching up. ASUS’ share increased from 10% to 13%, while newcomer Insta360 is another notable brand in this segment with 12% of the votes.

Best Computer Chair Brand – Secretlab

If you’ve recently shopped for a computer chair, you’ll know that there’s no shortage of options. Despite the intense competition, Secretlab held on to first place in the Best Computer Chair category, and even grew its lead slightly from 24% to 25%. Secretab’s continued dominance in this category can be attributed to the fact that the brand is astutely aware of what its fans and users want, as evidenced by recent collaborations with One Piece, Harry Potter, and Genshin Impact. Interestingly, there’s little movement elsewhere as second-place Herman Miller and third-place ASUS both recorded more or less the same percentage of votes as last year.

Best Computer Table Brand – Omnidesk

There’s little movement at the top in this category as Omnidesk is once again number one in the Best Computer Table Brand category. It also grew its share of votes from 25% to 28.5%. With its wide range of tables, finishes, and accessories, it’s no wonder that many readers think of Omnidesk first when it’s time to shop for a computer table. But its rivals are not standing still. Secretlab came second again, but grew the share of its votes from 14% to 16%. Ikea was third, and saw its votes dip slightly from 14% to 12% this year.
