The Game Awards will play host to another new game announcement, as a studio founded by The Last of Us co-creator Bruce Straley will soon reveal its debut title during the show. The Game Awards show host Geoff Keighley and Straley’s studio, Wildflower Interactive, confirmed the news on social media via a short video teaser.
As Wildflower Interactive’s studio lead, Straley has decades of game development experience, with the majority of his career spent working at Naughty Dog. During his time with Sony’s subsidiary studio, Straley co-created The Last of Us alongside Neil Druckmann and was the game director of both Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Straley’s first Naughty Dog credits were as an artist for Crash Team Racing and the Jak and Daxter platforming trilogy. Before his time at Naughty Dog, Straley worked at Crystal Dynamics as an artist for the Gex series. After leaving behind a 17-year career with Naughty Dog, Straley publicly revealed Wildflower Interactive in 2022. Wildflower operates in a fully remote work environment, and Straley said he wants the studio to be “inclusive, equitable, and collaborative” in what it does.
Bruce Straley’s Latest Project Will Be Revealed at The Game Awards
Now, years after Straley worked on one of PlayStation’s best sequels, his current studio will soon show off what it has been working on since its formation. Wildflower Interactive’s debut project will be revealed during The Game Awards 2025. TGA showrunner Geoff Keighley posted a 30-second video that showed what Straley and Wildflower Interactive have been working on. The video shows a cel-shaded forest, with a bird perched atop a wooden road sign, and the sound of other wildlife and the wind in the background. An unseen character was also faintly heard encouraging someone to “come on,” as the bird flew away.
The trailer then faded to black and closed with the logos of both Wildflower Interactive and The Game Awards. The title of Wildflower Interactive’s debut game was not revealed during the 30-second teaser, leaving interested fans to ponder what the game’s name and genre will be based on what was shown. The Game Awards 2025 will air on Thursday, December 11, on platforms like Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok. The broadcast will begin at 7:30 PM Eastern with a 30-minute pre-show before the main ceremony begins shortly after. However, it is not precisely known when Wildflower Interactive’s debut game will air during the broadcast, so fans must tune into The Game Awards to find out firsthand.
Wildflower Interactive Joins a Loaded TGA Schedule
Along with revealing the winners of accolades like Game of the Year, Best Performance, and Players’ Voice, The Game Awards is slated to be packed with new trailers and reveals to sate fans’ appetites. Previously-revealed games, such as Capcom’s anticipated Resident Evil Requiem and Sony’s upcoming title Saros, will get extended looks during the ceremony. In addition to the reveal of Wildflower Interactive’s debut game, TGA will also show off some new games that fans have not seen before. In response to Wildflower Interactive’s new teaser on social media, fans of Straley’s work stated they would watch the show with interest, while others stated that the Wildflower teaser would have been better off as a surprise during the broadcast.
As for Naughty Dog itself, the award-winning studio closed last year’s TGA show with the reveal of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, its first new IP in over a decade. The response to Intergalactic‘s debut trailer was mixed, and Naughty Dog did not state when its upcoming PS5 title will be released. It remains to be seen if Intergalactic will appear again at the 2025 edition of The Game Awards, or if Sony and Naughty Dog have other plans to keep fans interested.
