A new update for Ghost of Yotei fixes some problems that have been popping up in the game’s recently added New Game Plus mode. This latest Ghost of Yotei update isn’t the largest that the game has seen, but it does fix some irritating gameplay issues that fans have been experiencing, particularly ones that have been plaguing New Game Plus players.
First launching exclusively on PlayStation 5 on October 2, Sucker Punch Productions’ sequel to Ghost of Tsushima is easily one of the most talked-about action adventure games of the year, exceeding 2 million units sold within three days of its release. It’s also been racking up a lot of accolades, with an OpenCritic player rating of 90 and wins for Best Audio Design and Console Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards. Ghost of Yotei also has plenty of opportunities to add to its trophy case on December 11, as it made the list of nominees for The Game Awards 2025 seven times, including a Best Performance nod for Erika Ishii as Atsu.

Less than two weeks ago, Sucker Punch dropped the game’s 1.000 update, which, among other things, introduced Ghost of Yotei‘s New Game Plus mode, letting players continue their adventures with a leveled-up Atsu even after her story has ended. While that update has greatly expanded the Ghost of Yotei experience, it came with a few pesky bugs, so a follow-up patch has now been added to the game that corrects four gameplay problems, including ones that have been noticed with New Game Plus. A couple of these notes are generalized, stating simply that the post-launch development team has fixed some issues the game had been experiencing related to both the New Game Plus Vendor and some uncommonly occuring soft-locking issues.
The other notes are more specific. One strange bug that had surfaced in New Game Plus mode was related to Ghost of Yotei’s Bamboo Strike locations. There are 15 such locations laid out across the game’s world, where players can take on a minigame that requires memorizing and repeating a series of button presses, with success resulting in Atsu gaining a boost to her total Spirit. Following the release of the 1.000 Update, players had been noticing the counter at these locations had been oddly displaying negative numbers, but this issue has reportedly been fixed with the release of the newest update.
An even more serious issue is one that had been preventing some players from collecting the Platinum Armor Dye after earning a platinum trophy in Ghost of Yotei, potentially locking them out of a desired cosmetic item. The team noted this issue had been a rare one, and it had only seemed to affect players who had achieved the trophy across multiple save files, but it has also been fixed. In addition to the gameplay issues, the new patch notes also mention that the latest update has resolved some general crashing issues that players have been running into on rare occasions.
As Sucker Punch deals with the early growing pains associated with the addition of New Game Plus, there is still more content planned for the game on the horizon. A Legends co-op mode is planned for Ghost of Yotei in 2026, as was confirmed in a trailer for the game more than a month before its release. While a release date for the Legends mode is not pinned down just yet, it is planned to arrive as a free DLC add-on and will likely mirror the similarly titled game mode that was featured in Ghost of Tsushima.
