Some Fallout 76 players have expressed disappointment over the game’s seventh anniversary. While Bethesda commemorated the occasion with an event, fans have criticized the ongoing Fallout 76 promotion for several reasons, including the absence of a clear celebratory theme.
November 14 marked the seventh anniversary of Fallout 76‘s rocky release. Despite some growing pains, Bethesda managed to improve and expand on virtually every aspect of the West Virginia-set live-service game, building a loyal audience in the process. The developer recently reiterated its commitment to supporting the open-world RPG for years to come.
Some Fallout 76 Players Expected More from the Game’s 7th Anniversary
While Fallout 76 is in a healthy place right now, Bethesda did not commit significant resources to marking its 2025 anniversary. Some fans have voiced disappointment on social media, saying they expected more from the developer. One post currently on the front page of the game’s largest subreddit describes this year’s anniversary as “by far the saddest FO76 birthday ever.” In another November 14 thread, players lamented the absence of birthday cake, something Bethesda provided for the game’s fifth anniversary.
What Fallout 76’s 7th Birthday Event Actually Entails
The only promotion running for the game’s seventh birthday is a showcase of select Fallout 76 seasonal events, which have been rotating daily throughout the anniversary week. Some fans have criticized the event on social media for lacking a clear anniversary theme, while others have expressed frustration over its reliance on recycled content rather than introducing even minor new additions.
Not All Reactions to Fallout 76’s 7th Anniversary Event Are Negative
While the most vocal segment of longtime players appears disappointed with how Bethesda marked the seventh anniversary, not all reactions to the seasonal showcase have been negative. Some Fallout 76 fans welcomed the opportunity to obtain seasonal exclusives they previously missed, while others praised the variety of content on offer. For context, a typical week in Fallout 76 features one main event at the top of every hour, which makes for a good grinding cadence but is inherently much more repetitive than this year’s anniversary showcase.
More Fallout 76 Content Is on the Horizon
While the seventh anniversary may not have offered any meaningful additions, players looking for new content won’t have to wait long. Fallout 76 Season 23, titled Blood x Rust, is set to launch on December 2 alongside the Burning Springs update. The update will mark the game’s second-ever expansion of the Appalachia map, introducing a new location in rural Ohio that shares its name. The Ghoul character from the Fallout TV show will also appear, with Walton Goggins reprising his role as the voice actor. New quests and factions will be part of the package as well, as will additional items, among other novelties.
