Stellar Blade may make the leap from PS5 to Xbox Series X/S or Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in the future, developer Shift Up has suggested. Console exclusivity has been waning across the board, although Sony has remained a bit slower to bring its titles to competitor platforms than Microsoft. As things continue to trend in the direction of cross-platform releases, Stellar Blade could be the next Sony-published game to branch out from PS5 to other consoles.
Originally a PS5 exclusive, Stellar Blade became an immediate hit on Steam after coming to PC a year after its initial launch. Alongside Helldivers 2, it was one of just two PlayStation games to ever break the 100,000 concurrent player mark on Steam, even though Sony had already brought iconic franchises like God of War and The Last of Us to PC. Now it seems Shift Up and Sony may want to keep that success going with an even broader platform expansion.
Stellar Blade Is Eyeing Additional Console Releases
Shift Up’s Q3 2025 financial report highlighted the ongoing success of Stellar Blade and mentioned the studio is “considering additional platform expansions” to reach a larger audience. The company notes that upcoming seasonal promotions for PC and PS5 will support higher sales in the next quarter and beyond, but it’s still interested in a release on a new platform, which would likely mean either the Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, or both. Some fans have already suspected that Stellar Blade may be getting a Switch 2 version, as Shift Up has reportedly received a dev kit from Nintendo, and these new comments may add credence to those rumors, although the statement makes it sound like nothing is settled yet.
Given Stellar Blade‘s success on PC, an Xbox or Switch 2 release would seem like a safe bet for Shift Up. There’s plenty of motivation for Sony, as a publisher, to agree to another console release as well. It took less than a week for Helldivers 2 to become the top paid game on Xbox when it jumped to Microsoft’s platform, and that Xbox release has continued to prove a lucrative decision since. While Helldivers 2 had the advantage of being a multiplayer game, helping it generate engagement across all platforms through crossplay, Stellar Blade has the critical and fan acclaim to pique Xbox or Switch 2 players’ interest.
Looking beyond a potential expansion for Stellar Blade, Shift Up’s latest report also revealed the company is targeting a release after 2027 for its next flagship title, codenamed Project Spirit. Earlier in 2025, the studio also confirmed that Stellar Blade will get a sequel, potentially launching sometime in 2026. Shift Up didn’t mention the sequel in its Q3 report, choosing instead to focus on the first game, but there could be exciting news coming down the pipeline regardless of when the second game releases.
