Dark Deity 2 has reached the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, ending its brief period of Switch console exclusivity. With its arrival on the PlayStation and Xbox Stores, the strategy RPG is now available on half a dozen digital storefronts.
Developed by San Francisco-based Sword & Axe, the first Dark Deity game launched as a PC exclusive in June 2021 before making its way to the Nintendo Switch in March of the following year. It is a Switch console exclusive to this day, having never been ported to any other platform. Its sequel debuted in a similar fashion, launching on PC in March 2025 and then making its way to the eShop six months later. However, its Switch console exclusivity ended up being short-lived, lasting just over two months.
Dark Deity 2 Reaches PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S
Dark Deity 2 was released for the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 on November 7, published by indie.io. The PlayStation and Xbox versions of the strategy RPG retail for $24.99, matching the price of their PC and Switch counterparts. As is sometimes the case with indie releases, PlayStation Plus subscribers can purchase Dark Deity 2 at a small discount, bringing the price down to $19.99, or 20% off. The launch offer is valid until December 5 at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 6pm CET. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X/S port was given a flat 20% launch discount—available until November 20—with no strings attached.
Dark Deity 2 Is Likely to Appeal to Classic Fire Emblem Fans
Dark Deity 2 is set 25 years after the events of its Kickstarter-funded predecessor, which raised over $74,000 from nearly 2,400 backers in 2020, surpassing its crowdfunding goal six times over. Mechanically, it still offers a tactical RPG experience inspired by the long-running Fire Emblem franchise, pairing turn-based battles with dynamic unit recruitment paths and lots of team-building options. It also features a fantasy setting with a high-stakes narrative, 20 hero units, 45 branching classes with unique abilities, and a retro pixel art style.
The Dark Deity sequel’s campaign is fully voice-acted, with its cast headlined by Persona 3 Reload actress Allegra Clark, who voiced Mitsuru in Atlus’s critically acclaimed P3 remake. The game emphasizes replayability through extensive customization options inspired by community-made randomizers, allowing players to fine-tune everything from XP and gold gain multipliers to unit recruitment order and various combat settings, among other elements.

Although Dark Deity 2’s arrival on the Xbox and PlayStation Stores could indicate that its predecessor may eventually reach Sony and Microsoft’s consoles as well, neither Sword & Axe nor indie.io have provided any confirmation to that effect. The game’s publisher previously said Dark Deity 2 was designed as a “fully standalone adventure” that can be enjoyed without playing the original.
