The PS5 Was The Best-Selling Console on Black Friday in One Region

The PlayStation 5 was the top-selling console by a wide margin this Black Friday in the United Kingdom, with the Sony console accounting for more than half of console sales. Sony has been making some major pushes for the PS5 throughout the year as competition has stiffened up from both Xbox and Nintendo. While the PS5 has seen its price rise multiple times throughout the years, Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales have given plenty of fans the chance to pick up Sony’s premier gaming platform for a nice discount. Now, Sony’s sales strategy seems to be working in one particular corner of the world.

Black Friday saw the gaming industry pull out all the stops to give fans deals on some of the hottest games and consoles. Each platform hosted its own sales to kick off the holiday shopping season, with fan-favorite franchises like Red Dead Redemption and LEGO seeing discounts as high as 90%. Some of 2025’s biggest releases also received their own markdowns as part of the Black Friday season, including exciting new game releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6. Sony can now call itself gaming’s big Black Friday winner in the UK with a major victory.

Sony Won Multiple Regions in Black Friday Sales

The dominance of Sony’s home console was not exclusive to the United Kingdom, either, with the console thriving in other regions. Sony led home console sales in the United States throughout the Black Friday weekend, accounting for 47% of hardware sales throughout the week. The Switch 2 similarly followed the PS5 in sales, with Nintendo’s newest home console clearly seeing success in its first holiday season. Sony’s impressive holiday sales come as the console developer looks to have a big showing at the 2025 Game Awards. Kojima Productions and Sony’s Death Stranding 2: On The Beach tied for second-place with seven total Game Awards nominations, alongside another first-party Sony game in Ghost of Yotei. Death Stranding 2 is also one of the games up for the biggest award of the entire ceremony, selected as one of six nominees for the prestigious “Game of the Year” award at the show coming on December 11. Sony has plenty to celebrate between the PS5’s successful start to the holiday season and the potential accolades from The Game Awards.
