Sony goes back in time with a series of transparent PS5 controllers and covers

It’s always nice to see transparent tech get their time in the sun. From the classic Game Boy Color consoles with translucent plastic housings to the Funtastic N64 series, to even something like the recent DJI Romo P, it’s a fun aesthetic that lets you see all the innards that make our devices run.

This time, it’s Sony’s turn – the company has released a slate of transparent DualSense Wireless Controllers and PlayStation 5 console covers, in a colourful lineup that it’s calling the Prism Collection.

Play

The new collection comes in three colourways – Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray. It’s worth noting that, unlike the regular DualSense controllers which have a matte finish, the transparent portions of the Prism Collection controllers are glossy, which may be slightly detrimental for grip.

However, it might not matter as much if you care more about the looks of the new collection. And it’s commendable that Sony has decided to go all-in when it comes to the colour variations. Everything from the housing, to the analog sticks, the triggers and even buttons are coded to the controller’s respective colour scheme.

Even the touchpad has been colour-coded, and is itself transparent, letting you see the PCB underneath.

As for the console covers, we have less of an idea of what they’ll look like, but only the top half appears to be transparent. In any case, it’s perhaps the less exciting of the two products since you can already get third-party transparent covers, but the colours are nice nonetheless. It’s certainly tapping into some nostalgic sensibilities, which Sony has been lacking in recent times considering their decision to cut physical disc production in the coming years.

Availability and Pricing

The Prism Collection for PS5 accessories will be available in Southeast Asia starting 4 February 2027. The DualSense Wireless Controllers will cost you S$115.

As for the covers, they’ll be available in limited quantities only in select retailers. Sony hasn’t announced which retailers will carry them, but they’ll cost S$101.
