Disney+ K-drama Merry Berry Love: Ji Chang-wook goes to Japan in hollow romantic comedy

Cross-cultural media ties between Japan and South Korea continue to blossom with Merry Berry Love, a rural romance starring Ji Chang-wook (The Worst of Evil) and Mio Imada (Trillion Game). Co-produced by South Korea’s CJ ENM and Japan’s Nippon Television, the show airs locally on Nippon TV and streams globally on Disney+.

Although written and directed by South Korean creatives, the story unfolds largely on Charo Island, in rural Japan. Imada plays Karin Shirahama, a plucky farmer who has spent years trying to secure official recognition for her strawberry patch. Despite losing overworked staff and facing repeated setbacks, she puts on a brave face. Karin also suffers from a mysterious illness that flares up when her heart rate increases.
