In the lead-up to this year’s Apple Event, we were all expecting the announcement of a foldable iPhone. And indeed, it did happen. After years of rumours and revisions, the foldable iPhone Duo is now a real product you can soon hold in your hands. That is, if you can wait a month; pre-orders for the iPhone Duo are only starting on 16 October 2026, and orders will only start shipping on 23 October.

As we detailed in our news coverage and hands-on, one of the notable differences between the iPhone Duo and its competitors – namely the Galaxy Z Fold8 – is that it’s more substantial in size and weight. Despite being the thinnest iPhone at 5.2mm when unfolded, the iPhone Duo is still quite hefty, weighing 254g. That camera island (or camera plateau, as Apple calls it) also protrudes out the back of the Duo by quite a bit, so it’s susceptible to severe damage if the phone lands on its back after a drop.
Given the $3,099 starting price of the iPhone Duo, this is definitely one phone you wouldn’t want to drop and have it cracked or scratched. If you’ve already decided to spend at least three grand on Apple’s first foldable iPhone, we’ve compiled a list of iPhone Duo cases that you can shop for as well, in order to protect your shiny new toy.
Can the iPhone Duo have a case?
Yes. In fact, as we’ll show in our list below, Apple has its own cases for the iPhone Duo already. However, as foldables have a more complex build than regular slab phones, their cases are almost more complex to make. Cases for the iPhone Duo can come in either two pieces, for both sides of the foldable phone, or in one piece, which often also protect the hinge. Some cases may also protect the border on the inner display, while some won’t.
How do you put a case on an iPhone Duo?
This is a pertinent question for the Duo especially as its front display is edge-to-edge, which doesn’t leave negative space for any potential cases to hang on to. Companies will implement different measures to ensure that the case will still latch on to the side of the iPhone Duo with the front screen; this includes using PU strips, or attaching via magnets.
More complex cases will have protection for the hinge, and that necessitates some unique designs to ensure that it can cover the hinge without impeding its movement.
What are considered the best iPhone cases?
There’s many different cases for different purposes. Cases from brands such as Spigen and UAG are typically known for durability rather than style, so they have a reputation for being bulkier – though some of their slimmer cases do attempt a more classy look. Other brands like Casetify, or even Apple’s own cases, tend to prioritise looks over durability. With cases from these brands, you may get more colour options, or more stylised (or minimalist) designs, but they may not have drop protection that’s as good as bulkier cases.
Do also note what material the case is made out of. Many cases you’ll find nowadays are made of either TPU, which tends to be more flexible and has greater shock resistance, which is stiffer and is more scratch resistant.
What’s the safest case for an iPhone?
If you’re looking for something that has pure durability, you will have to get used to having a bit of bulk on your phone for protection. As mentioned above, brands like UAG, Spigen, and others like OtterBox are known for making durable cases. For the iPhone Duo specifically, look for something that protects the camera raised camera plateau (or camera island). Also take note if the case you’re looking at has a raised lip around the display. This helps to protect the screen from scratches whenever you put it face down.
