Obsession breakout Inde Navarrette already has a plan to make sure she nails Rogue’s iconic Southern accent in the new X-Men movie.
Navarrette will jump from horror to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) when she appears in X-Men in 2028. As revealed last month, it’s due out May 5, 2028, but even more than Rogue’s power-stealing abilities and fierce attitude, fans have been dying to know if Navarrette will bring any spice to Rogue’s voice.
The character is known for her southern draw, especially thanks to the delivery made popular by original X-Men animated series voice actress Lenore Zann. Navarrette may not have the natural accent audiences would expect from Rogue, but she told Entertainment Tonight that the mutant team member’s voice is very much already on her mind.
“I’ve never told this publicly – I completely forgot – but I have a divorced family. I grew up in Texas for a good majority of my life,” Navarrette said when asked how she’ll build Rogue’s voice. “So, honestly, those Southern women are really my favorite.”
Navarrette then noted her specific connection to Corpus Christi, a coastal town located toward the south end of Texas. For the Obsession actress-turned-Marvel superhero, it’s the “old Southern women” that she “really, really loves.” But her appreciation for the South doesn’t stop there.
