Now that Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake has made its way into players’ hands, many will likely want to know how the mission layout differs from the original release. While these new versions work hard to remain faithful to their original counterparts, there have been some structural changes made to bring them more in-line with what players expect from a modern JRPG. In most cases, this means quality-of-life changes, but in DQ2 especially, there has been some significant shuffling around. In this guide, we’ll provide a complete mission list for Dragon Quest I & II, and reveal how long it takes to beat both games.
Dragon Quest 1 & 2 Remake Complete Mission Lists

How Long to Beat Dragon Quest 1 Remake:
Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake is considerably shorter than the sequel. Players can expect to spend about 10 Hours completing the main story. Think of DQ1 Remake as a single journey through the game’s world. There isn’t necessarily a series of ‘main missions’ and ‘side missions’ per se.
Ultimately, how long you spend in the game depends on several factors, including the difficulty level, and how thoroughly you want to explore each location. It’s certainly possible to spend longer than 10 hours in-game, especially if you seek out all 40 of Dragon Quest 1 Remake‘s 40 mini medals, but most players can expect to average that time.

At this point in Dragon Quest 2 Remake, you’ll have several options for where to go next. The game provides four objective markers if you’ve got them turned on. The four options are Beran, Zahan, Burrowell, and Tantegel. You may wish to simply explore at this point, as the enemies you’ll face from here will be much more formidable.
Technically, you are free to complete these missions in any order. If you are playing on Dragon or Draconian difficulties, then you will want to plan to grind. We visited Tantegel first, as it was closest. We went to Beran next, where you end up recruiting the Princess of Cannock, the final member of the party. Next, we went to Zahan, and finally to Burrowell.
Tantegel – East of Rippleport
- 23. Tantegel — From Rippleport, this is the closest option.

Lighthouse & Star Sigil: At any point during this section, you can make your way to the Lighthouse, which is the home of the Star Sigil. It is not one of the four marked objectives when you first get the ship, so it does not matter when you decide to do it. You can try immediately, or wait until after Dirkandor. You must collect all three of the sigils (Sun, Moon, Star) to continue.
Part 5: Mermaids and Faeries, Final Sigils, Magic Key:

This list simply represents the major points in the story, and by no means encompasses every location you can visit. There are several more locations that, while not necessarily required to progress the story, are nonetheless useful for those looking to fully outfit themselves and the party with the best possible gear before facing Hargon. Essentially, we are saying that you should absolutely take the time to explore outside the required destinations.
How Long to Beat the Dragon Quest 2 Remake
Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake is much longer than its predecessor. You should expect to spend at least 30 Hours completing the main story. Our playthrough, with 53 of the 80 mini medals collected, all of Erdrick’s gear acquired, and every location visited, took 42 hours. To speed up our playthrough, we played at the fastest battle speed, and with a mix of Dracky and Dragon difficulty levels.
