Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G comes to Singapore with a tablet-sized battery, and we tested it

The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G gets a 6.83-inch AMOLED display that supports up to 120Hz refresh rate, while the Redmi Note 17 and 17 5G get an even larger 6.99-inch AMOLED display that supports a maximum of 120Hz refresh rate as well. 

The processors, however, are much more varied across all four variants:

Other differences are minor, like the Pro getting Bluetooth 5.1 instead of Bluetooth 6.0, and the non-5G gets Bluetooth 5.0 unlike the rest. More importantly, all models have NFC support.

27 hours of battery testing with the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G

According to Xiaomi, it spent years of research and experimentation with silicon-carbon batteries before managing to fit a 10,000mAh capacity battery into a 8.65mm-thin body of the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G.

For comparison, most silicon-carbon phones exceed the 5,000mAh benchmark that was set by lithium blends, achieving anywhere up to 7,000+mAh. However, it’s usually only tablets (like the Huawei MatePad Air or OPPO Pad 5) that sees 10,000mAh capacities, owing to their larger dimensions.

There’s also support for 100W wired charging. Our attempts saw the phone go from 0% to 50% in 34 minutes. However, a full charge takes slightly longer at around 2 hours. Charging slows down significantly after the 85% mark, which we believe has to do with preserving battery health for the longer term.

In real-world tests, playing an hour of Where Winds Meet consumed 9% battery. That hour consists of navigating populated multiplayer areas, grinding dungeon bosses, and completing dailies.

At the end of the session, the back of the phone registered at 37°C; just slightly warm to the touch. Longer sessions will likely make it higher, but that’s to be expected with phones.

Idling efficiency is impressive with 4% used after 12 hours standby, while connected to Wi-Fi and receiving notifications.

Finally, we can talk about our benchmark. That’s a whopping 27 hours+ of uptime with 20% still left in the tank, before energy-saving features even kicked in. That has to be the longest-lasting Android phone we’ve seen this year, since very few models we’ve tried can break past the 20-hour mark, much less 24 hours or more.

Benchmark performance

Redmi Note 17 Pro Max’s Snapdragon Qualcomm 6 Gen 5 chipset is a midrange processor manufactured on a 4nm process. It was was announced in May 2026. We don’t have any direct comparisons, since we typically cover flagship offerings. However, we can still compare it to other ~S$800 competitors and its predecessors.

For web browsing and CPU performance, we saw acceptable numbers (for a midrange device).

That said, we experienced stuttering in Where Winds Meet, and it required us to dial down its graphics settings to Low for playability. That’s one trade-off for its insane battery life; the other being multi-tasking loads.

However, regular activities like watching videos or browsing social media are perfectly fine, with no noticeable impact to the browsing experience.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G comes with a dual rear camera setup:-

We’ve tempered our expectations for this midrange handset despite touting a “Pro Max” in its name. Despite that, you should see the sample images below for what the phone’s cameras are capable of. 

At a glance, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max seemed to handle details very well, even though it has muted contrast handling and a mild yellow bias in coloursiation (see the greenery and the supposedly red shop). We think it’s decent because it didn’t struggle with low-light shots, per our expectations.
