The Super NES had no shortage of amazing RPGs, though only a fraction of them saw release outside of Japan. There was one particularly strange case, though: Terranigma, the third game in a trilogy of popular action-RPGs that included Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia, only saw an English-language release in Europe. 30 years later, however, that’s finally changing, as Terranigma has been announced for a global release by publisher Clear River Games on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC in early 2027.
Terranigma puts players in the shoes of Ark, a youth who lives in a secluded village. A mysterious box he opens unleashes a curse on everyone in his hamlet, setting him off on a journey that becomes an epoch-crossing mission to revive the world and humanity as we know it. As a late SNES release, it offers some of the finest pixel-art graphics and music seen on the platform, along with an ambitious narrative and visual design supervised by manga creator Kamui Fujiwara.
