‘Who’s at fault?’: Woman crossing on red light hit by car that sped up on green


A woman was hit by a car on Boon Lay Way after crossing the road while the pedestrian light was red.

The 45-second dashcam clip, which circulated online, showed that the incident occurred on Oct 28 at 1.36 pm. The traffic lights were in favour of the driver, but the woman, holding an umbrella, continued crossing the road.

Although the dashcam driver slowed down and honked to warn her, another vehicle accelerated and struck her. The driver was later seen getting out of the car to help her. The dashcam driver also alighted.

The video, posted by Roads.sg on Facebook on Oct 31, has since drawn more than 1,900 reactions and 700 comments at press time.

According to the Traffic Police, individuals who fail to comply with red lights at a pedestrian crossing can be fined $50.
