Samsung’s 200MP camera sensor with DeepPix technology

Samsung has unveiled a new 200MP smartphone camera sensor that introduces a new technology designed to capture more light, reduce image noise and improve HDR performance.

The 1/1.3-inch ISOCELL HPC is the first mobile image sensor to feature DeepPix, a new pixel architecture designed to improve the amount of light information each pixel can capture. Samsung says it increases the pixel’s light-handling capacity by 60% compared with the previous generation. This allows the sensor to preserve more detail in bright areas without losing information in the shadows, while also reducing image noise.

The ISOCELL HPC improves light efficiency through a high-precision microlens that directs more light onto each pixel, while a high-transmittance coating minimises light reflection and scattering. The result should be photos with a wider dynamic range, particularly in challenging lighting conditions such as backlit scenes.
