Google Pixel 11 series: Key upgrades and features

If you haven’t already realised, “slow and steady wins the race” is definitely Google’s mindset when it comes to their Pixel devices. 

It’s rare to see large hardware upgrades or groundbreaking software features, but each new iteration usually comes with small changes that are generally useful. That’s the case again with the new Google Pixel 11 series. So here’s what’s new across the board, and individually with each phone:

New changes across the bar-type series

All three bar-type models (Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL) get a newly redesigned camera bar that uses a single piece of edge-to-edge glass that blends into the metal frame, making it look even more refined. 

The devices all retain IP68 dust and water resistance, and all of them will be getting Google’s new 2nm Tensor G6 processor. 

AI features are mostly the same across the devices as well, with Gemini Intelligence helping to pull relevant information across apps (which is basically what Magic Cue promised) and display what you need. There’s also new voice-to-text capabilities that let the phones automatically remove filler words like “um” and format your thoughts into proper text. 

The display sizes are unchanged for the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL. As for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, it keeps the same inner display size, but the outer display is now a 6.5-inch screen – up from 6.3 inches in the previous generation.

The Google Pixel Camera app now gets Circle to Search so you can identify objects, translate text and more without needing to switch to another app or take a photo first. 

There’s also a new capture mode in the Camera app called Magic Capture, which captures both a video and high-quality photos with a single tap, so you don’t have to keep looking at the phone when capturing a moment. 

Camera Looks is a new feature that allows users to create their own set of film styles and filters for a more distinct look to their photos. 

The Titan M3 security chip inside is also new, with hardware-level protection and post-quantum cryptography to protect Pixel devices against digital attacks. Pixel’s Scam Detection feature is also available here, so if the other party on a call or text conversation has suspicious patterns, the user will be alerted.

What’s new with the Google Pixel 11 Pro & Pro XL 

The upgrades on the Pro models this year are definitely more noticeable. First of all, these phones get the new HiLight LED light array on the camera bar.

When placing the phones face down, Pixel’s Flip to Shhh is activated, and HiLight will glow with customisable colours for incoming calls from favourite contacts. Google states this feature is integrated with WhatsApp and Phone by Google, so the colours stay the same no matter how the favourite contact is calling you. 

The display gets a few nice upgrades, including being protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass that gets a coating that’s more than twice as scratch-resistant, and a higher 3,600-nit peak brightness. 

Both the main and telephoto cameras are new as well. The new 50MP main camera gets a new 1/1.3-inch sensor, with 2x optical quality zoom. The telephoto camera, on the other hand, is now able to capture 32% more light than before, with Google upgrading the digital zoom all the way to 120x.

There’s also Instant Night Sight, which helps to capture photos in low light up to 4.5x faster than normal Night Sight. 

Both devices get up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, with over 30 hours of battery life. The Pixel 11 Pro gets a 4,850mAh battery while the Pixel 11 Pro XL gets one with a capacity of 5,115mAh.

The Pixel 11 Pro XL can charge up to approximately 75% in just 30 minutes, while the Pixel 11 Pro is supposed to charge up to 55% in 30 minutes with wired charging. 

Wireless charging is also faster than before, with a 17% improvement for the Pixel 11 Pro XL and 29% for the Pixel 11 Pro. 

What’s new with the Google Pixel 11

The base model doesn’t get HiLight, but it does get the new Google Tensor G6 processor, which Google claims to deliver up to 20% better power efficiency, 25% faster browsing and 15% faster app loading compared to the Tensor G5 chip. 

The Imaging Signal Processor (ISP) inside is also improved, with reduced processing lag and quicker captures. 

Just like previous years, the display retains its 3,000-nit peak brightness along with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. 

Google also claims it’s upgraded the 48MP main camera on the Pixel 11, with a larger sensor that provides 56% better light sensitivity compared to the Pixel 10. Super Zoom has also been upgraded to 30x.

The phone gets 12GB of RAM, with storage starting from 256GB, and supposedly can offer over 30 hours of battery with the 4,985mAh battery inside.

There’s 30W wired charging that gets the phone to 55% in 30 minutes and 25% faster wireless charging thanks to the built-in Pixelsnap magnetic compatibility. 

What’s new with the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold

Google’s foldable flagship is now in its fourth iteration, and we’re getting some major hardware upgrades here. 

Google has managed to shave off almost 1mm from the Pixel 11 Pro Fold’s thickness, and about 10% of its weight from before, while making the phone even more durable with a soft-touch composite back, a new aerospace-grade ultra-high-strength steel hinge and retaining IP68 dust and water resistance. 

Both the main and outer displays are 20% brighter than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and for the first time, Google’s Super Actua display is coming to the Fold’s outer display. The main inner display remains at 8 inches with the Super Actua Flex display from before. 

The cameras are upgraded as well, with a new 48MP main camera that’s able to capture up to 56% more light and up to 30x Super Zoom on the telephoto camera. The camera bar also comes with the new HiLight array.

The device gets 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, with over 24 hours of battery life in the 4,806mAh battery. 30W wired charging will provide 50% of the phone’s maximum capacity in about 30 minutes, and Pixelsnap magnetic chargers will charge the phone up to 20% faster wirelessly. 

Google Pixel 11 series Singapore pricing and availability

The Google Pixel 11 series will retail in Singapore from 20 August onwards, with pre-orders open now. Every purchase of a Pro model or a Pixel 11 Pro Fold will come with six free months of the Google AI Pro plan (worth S$173.94).
