The ongoing global memory chip shortage is claiming another victim. Following similar announcements from Apple, Google has confirmed that its next-generation Pixel devices will be more expensive.
In an interview with 9to5Google, Shakil Barkat, Google’s Vice President of Devices and Services, revealed that there will be pricing “adjustments” across the entire Pixel family, including the upcoming Pixel 11 series and Pixel Watch 5.
Barkat attributed the decision to what he described as a “severe, supplier-driven RAM memory crisis”, adding that the economics of building consumer electronics have changed dramatically. “There’s never been an increase in memory prices like the world’s going through right now,” he said. Barkat added that Google had worked to shield customers from supply chain fluctuations “for as long as possible”.
