Battlefield 6 developer DICE has altered the System Override skin, a cosmetic item that was part of a promotion with tech company Razer, following backlash from the game’s community. The change was made as part of the highly anticipated Season 1 update for Battlefield 6, which also brings a plethora of balance adjustments, bug fixes, and new content to the latest entry in the series, including a new Battle Royale mode known as Battlefield REDSEC.
After fans heavily protested the unrealistic cosmetic items and never-ending collaborations in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, DICE reassured fans that it would not be following its competitor’s footsteps and that Battlefield 6 would stay true to its grounded, gritty themes. While none of the skins or other cosmetics have gone anywhere near as outlandish as Call of Duty‘s Beavis & Butt-Head or American Dad collaborations, a few vibrant colors have sparked concern among fans, with many urging fellow players to push back before the studio attempts to push the limits even further.
One particular skin in Battlefield 6 that quickly caught the attention of players was System Override, a cosmetic item that was included as part of a promotion with tech company Razer. The skin was often referred to as a “Monster Energy skin” due to the soldier’s neon-green color scheme, which fans campaigned against for future cosmetics. Now, in response to the backlash, it looks as though DICE has toned down the coloring of the skin. As spotted by Twitter user BattlefieldNET, who showed off a before-and-after comparison, the skin’s green coloring is now much darker and less “in your face,” so to speak.
Unfortunately, it’s yet to be seen if another controversial Battlefield 6 skin will be adjusted. The Wicked Grin cosmetic, an Assault class skin, caused outrage last week for its bright blue accents. Many blasted the skin as “dumb,” but some did attempt to defend it by noting that while it is not 100% realistic, it is nowhere near on the same level as what Treyarch Studios was releasing during Call of Duty: Black Ops 6‘s life cycle. Others pointed out that it is a slippery slope that could lead to increasingly unrealistic skins if fans don’t speak up.
The changes to the System Override are live in-game right now, and come alongside Battlefield 6‘s big Season 1 update. The first of three major content updates for the inaugural season went live today, adding a brand-new map, plenty of weapons, and more. Season 1’s second update will be released on November 18, followed by a third and final patch on December 9. If that wasn’t enough for players, EA also surprised fans with the release of Battlefield REDSEC today, a new free-to-play Battle Royale title.
