Google Photos AI Video Remix tool

It is not meant to replace a full editing app. It is more like a shortcut for people who want their photos to feel less flat without using other software. Google Photos has long been where people store their memories, with Video Remix, it is also trying to become the place where those memories get a quick AI makeover before they are shared.

The tool is designed around short, shareable edits rather than full-length video projects. Users pick a template under “Remix your videos” or access Video Remix through the Tools section in Google Photos.

Who gets it, and what are the limits?

There are still some practical limits. Video Remix is available to eligible Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers in selected countries, and Google says users need to update the Google Photos app on Android, iPhone or iPad before heading to the Create tab.

Gemini Omni is the key technology behind this new Photos feature. Google describes Omni as a model that can combine images, audio, video and text as input, then generate high-quality videos grounded in Gemini’s real-world knowledge. It can also edit videos through conversation, which is where the promise starts to move beyond simple filters and into more flexible AI-assisted creation.

At I/O 2026, Google said Gemini Omni is its new model that can “create anything from any input,” starting with video. It combines Gemini’s intelligence with generative media models, with video outputs coming first and broader output types planned over time.

For now, Video Remix looks less like a professional editing suite and more like a social-friendly shortcut. It is the sort of tool someone uses to turn a dim café clip into something warmer, make a plain background less dull, or give a short video an anime or watercolour look before sharing it.
