Google Photos is getting a new creative tool, and it’s aimed at anyone with hundreds of short videos in their gallery and no patience to edit any of them.
The company has launched Video Remix in Google Photos, a new AI-powered feature that turns ordinary clips into stylised, shareable videos in a few taps. It sits inside the Create tab and is powered by Gemini Omni, Google’s newer multimodal model for video creation and editing.
Google says the feature has a library of templates so users can make more imaginative videos without needing professional editing skills or spending hours on a timeline.
The idea is straightforward. Video editing can still feel like work, especially when all someone wants is a fun clip for a chat group, a quick family update, or an Instagram or TikTok post. By starting with ready-made effects rather than timelines, layers, colour wheels and export settings, Video Remix lowers that barrier. Users can browse templates, choose the style they want, and apply it to videos that are already backed up in Google Photos.
