Google Spark AI agent for macOS

Google has spent the past weeks teaching Gemini Spark to leave the chat window. First it learned to run in the background on Android, iOS and the web. Now, from 30 June 2026, it’s landing on macOS, where it can start sorting your Downloads folder.

The update, announced by Google via Gemini app product director Adam Coimbra and DeepMind engineering VP Srinivasan (Cheenu) Venkatachary, brings three changes at once.

  • Spark gets a proper desktop presence on Mac
  • It plugs into a longer list of everyday apps
  • It’s gained the ability to watch topics unfold in real time rather than waiting for you to ask

Spark isn’t just a chatbot with a longer memory, Google calls it a 24/7 AI agent, built on Gemini 3.5 Flash and an internal harness called Antigravity, running on dedicated virtual machines in Google Cloud rather than on your device. Set it a task on Monday, close your laptop, and Spark keeps working through the week, only interrupting you when there’s something worth reporting.

It launched at Google I/O in May, alongside a shake-up of Google’s AI subscription tiers. Google cut its flagship AI Ultra plan from US$250 to US$200 a month and introduced a new US$100 entry tier specifically to make Spark viable for a wider audience, a move one analysis called an attempt to make Spark “the consumer hook that pulls a much wider audience into agentic AI”. By late May, Spark had begun rolling out properly to AI Ultra subscribers in the US on Android, iOS and web.
