Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it will end physical disc production for new games released on PlayStation consoles from January 2028, marking another significant step in the games industry’s shift towards digital distribution.
According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, the move is being made in response to changing consumer habits, with Sony saying that player preferences and the wider entertainment industry have continued to move away from physical media. From January 2028 onwards, new games released on PlayStation consoles will be available through the PlayStation Store and at retailers, but only in digital formats.
