Wizards of the Coast is Delaying a New Magic: the Gathering Product

Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that some of its newest Magic: the Gathering products will be seeing a delay as a result of a manufacturing defect. The massively popular trading card game has ramped up its production with a wide variety of highly-anticipated new expansions launching throughout the year. 2025 has seen Magic: the Gathering truly embracing its “Universes Beyond” line of crossovers, bringing everything from Final Fantasy to Spider-Man and more. Now, however, some new products are now set to release a little later than expected.

One of Wizards of the Coast’s main ways of bringing exclusive new cards to Magic: the Gathering comes through the game’s frequent “Secret Lair” drops. Secret Lairs serve as a small curated collection of cards players can pick up through the Secret Lair shop, typically featuring reprints of older cards with new artwork. Secret Lairs have often given Magic: the Gathering a way to bring in new smaller crossovers, like the recent “PlayStation superdrop” adding popular franchises like Horizon and God of War. Wizards of the Coast is now sharing some unfortunate news about its Secret Lair series.

Magic: the Gathering is Delaying Some Secret Lair Products

Wizards of the Coast rolled out an official announcement about some of its new Secret Lair products on Friday. Within a “Secret Lair Update” posted to the official Magic: the Gathering website, the developer revealed that some of its recent Secret Lair items would be subject to a manufacturing delay, based on “inconsistencies with a raw material component.” Wizards of the Coast provides fans with options if their order is affected by a delay, offering refunds or modifications to affected customers. Wizards of the Coast did not specify which Magic Secret Lairs are affected by the delay.

The manufacturing delay with Wizards of the Coast comes as the developer recently ramped up its Secret Lairs with tons of new products releasing. Alongside the previously-mentioned PlayStation Secret Lairs, the developer announced new collaborations with pop culture icons like Jaws, Furby, and Iron Maiden among several others. Magic: the Gathering‘s lengthy lineup of Secret Lair products even includes an unexpected crossover with The Office, featuring several cards based on beloved character Dwight Schrute.

Magic: the Gathering‘s litany of crossovers doesn’t stop at the Secret Lair drops, planning plenty more collaborations throughout the remainder of the year. The final Standard-legal set of 2025 will introduce the game’s third full crossover expansion of the year, with Nickelodeon’s Avatar the Last Airbender being added to Magic: the Gathering. The Final Fantasy collaboration will also be getting even more content, with new holiday products later this year adding some new promo cards. Magic: the Gathering is going all-in on its crossovers, with plenty of fan-favorite media properties coming to the card game.
