Bigger Joint Network Between New Zealand and Singapore

Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines will significantly expand their joint network for the Northern Winter 2026 season (25 Oct 2026–27 Mar 2027), responding to strong demand between New Zealand, Singapore and key markets across Asia, India and Europe. The alliance will increase overall seat capacity between Singapore and New Zealand by 17%, adding around 72,000 extra seats to bring the seasonal total to more than 490,000 seats.

New Christchurch Flights and More Auckland Options

A key part of the expansion is new non‑stop Christchurch–Singapore services on Air New Zealand. From Northern Winter 2026, Air New Zealand will operate three weekly Boeing 787 flights between Christchurch and Singapore, complementing Singapore Airlines’ existing up to 12 weekly CHC services. During the peak months of November 2026 to February 2027, the partners will offer up to 15 weekly flights on the Christchurch–Singapore corridor, improving access to New Zealand’s South Island from across the SIA network.

On the Auckland route, Air New Zealand will add four weekly Auckland–Singapore services, using a mix of Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft on top of its existing daily 777‑300ER flights. Singapore Airlines will restructure its current three‑times‑daily Singapore–Auckland schedule to two daily flights, focusing on higher‑capacity widebodies.

A380 Comfort and Enhanced Premium Capacity

For premium travellers, one of the biggest changes is Singapore Airlines’ decision to deploy the Airbus A380 daily on SQ285/286 to and from Auckland, in place of the Boeing 777‑300ER for the 2026 Northern Winter season. The A380 brings 471 seats across four cabins:

Suites: 6 ultra‑private suites in the latest A380 layout
Business Class: 78 fully flat seats
Premium Economy: 44 seats
Economy Class: 343 seats

This swap significantly lifts First/Suites and Business Class capacity to Auckland, aligning with broader plans to double daily First/Suites availability on the route later in the season when a 777‑300ER with First joins the A380. For high‑value travellers, this means more opportunities to secure premium cabins using cash or miles, plus access to Singapore Airlines’ flagship lounges at Changi.

Air New Zealand’s added Auckland and Christchurch flights, operated by 777‑300ER and 787‑9 aircraft with long‑haul Business Premier cabins, further widen premium options for both point‑to‑point NZ–Singapore and onward connections via Changi.

Connectivity Across Asia, India and Europe

Air New Zealand Chief Operations and Alliances Officer Michael Williams says the expansion underlines the strength of the partnership and its importance in connecting New Zealand to the world. Through Singapore’s role as a major global hub, the joint network offers one‑stop access to New Zealand from South East Asia, India, the UK, Europe and beyond, while giving New Zealanders more options into SIA’s extensive long‑haul network.

For visitors, the new Christchurch services are particularly attractive, opening more convenient access to South Island icons such as Queenstown, Wanaka and the West Coast without a domestic connection via Auckland. Singapore Airlines Senior Vice President Marketing Planning Dai Haoyu notes that the A380 deployment “reflects our commitment to this important market” and complements Air New Zealand’s additional capacity.
