4K isn’t enough anymore, or at least that’s what companies are thinking in regards to their gaming displays. Hence, Dell has announced a new monitor to join in on the ongoing race for 5K displays this year, with the Alienware 39 5K OLED (AW3926QW).

Another 5K monitor joins competition

Outside of the 5120×2160 resolution and its 39-inch size, one key feature of the monitor is the use of an RGB stripe arrangement, where the RGB subpixels are arranged linearly rather than in a triangle. Apart from the subpixel arrangement, the monitor also uses a tandem RGB panel with four RGB layers (two blue, one green and one red).

The result is a peak brightness of up to 1,300 nits. The monitor is also VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 and Dolby Vision certified, has a 1500R curve, and features dual mode; 5K@165Hz or FHD@330Hz. As for connectivity, the monitor comes with DP 2.1 (UHBR20), HDMI 2.1 FRL with eARC, and a USB-C port capable of 90W PD. Dell has also thrown in a KVM switch, too.

Dell claims the AW3926QW as a first, particularly the first 5K OLED with an RGB stripe arrangement. And while that may be true, it still has to compete with a slew of other 5K gaming monitors out there, as that product category grows larger by the year.
